Desktop RSS Feeds vs. Online RSS

RSS, or Really Simple Syndication is a widget or functionality that allows websites to distribute content other than directly from their site. RSS capability is everywhere and almost every news site, website and blogging site enables creation of an RSS feed. There are two different types of RSS feeds; Online RSS and Desktop RSS. With Online RSS you must be online in order to get the feeds from the website. The information from online feeds is stored online so you are able to access it from any computer. Desktop RSS however, sends feeds directly to your hard drive so you do not have to have an online connection to get them.

Desktop RSS widgets are great because even if you somehow lose your internet connection you will still have your RSS information coming in. With the Online RSS you must be online and on a certain site to get the information (for instance you must be on the websites which you placed the RSS feeds.) With the desktop RSS feed reader functionality you can keep up with your favorite news and blogs while you are working on another website or preparing a word document or anything else that takes you away from the standard online reader. Desktop RS feed readers normally have support for multiple RSS feeds and can even access password protected sites. Desktop RSS feed readers allow all of your favorite information to be available to you whenever you want without having to be on a certain site to enjoy. For this reason, many are switching to desktop RSS feed readers. Readily available information is important to many people and sometimes getting online and to particular sites just isn’t practical. Why wait to get information that can be as close as your desktop? Get your online information without even being online. Now that’s convenient.
